Summary

The hotly anticipated and explosive third book in the New York Times bestselling Charlotte Holmes series。

It’s been a year since the shocking death of August Moriarty, and Jamie and Charlotte haven’t spoken。

Jamie is going through the motions at Sherringford, trying to finish his senior year without incident, with a nice girlfriend he can’t seem to fall for。

Charlotte is on the run, from Lucien Moriarty and from her own mistakes。 No one has seen her since that fateful night on the lawn in Sussex—and Charlotte wants it that way。 She knows she isn’t safe to be around。 She knows her Watson can’t forgive her。

Holmes and Watson may not be looking to reconcile, but when strange things start happening, it’s clear that someone wants the team back together。 Someone who has been quietly observing them both。 Making plans。 Biding their time。

Someone who wants to see one of them suffer and the other one dead。

4。5 STARSGOD I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS!!! Okay I am way to excited to write a proper review, so here’s a random rant of how great this book is。Really character-based。 Much more than the previous books。 There was a plot, case, mystery, but to me, the book focused a lot of the growth of the characters AND IT WAS GREAT。Charlotte’s amazing, like always。 Jamie is literally so REAL AND MORAL, perfect pair (especially seeing how healthy their relationship has gotten through the books)。 All side character 4。5 STARSGOD I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS!!! 3。5 stars。 It was pretty good but i feel like they could have started the book at like 40% because people weren’t really doing anything。 there also wasn’t a bunch of mystery, it was just Watson finding out how messed up his life is。 it was just a little dull。

I enjoyed Book 3 which surprised me because most of it takes place with Charlotte and Jamie apart。 It worked though。

Her chapters are very dark。 Gone is the self-confident, hypercompetent Charlotte of A Study in Charlotte and The Last of August。 The disaster that ended The Last of August has shattered Charlotte。 She blames herself (with some justice)。 She is alone, can't trust most of her family, and realizes now that she is and always has been a seriously messed-up kid。 What makes it all even worse is that she has fallen in love with Jamie, and he has left her。 She herself is perhaps not entirely aware that she is in love, but it is unmistakable to the reader:I fitted his hand against my hip and told him the three other times he’d put it just there (a bookshop in South London, by accident; on the flight back to England, to take my phone from my pocket; while brushing our teeth in the same bathroom in Sussex, because he needed to open a drawer and I’d been in the way)。 Jamie is back at Sherringford, studying for college entrance exams, and dating a nice girl, Elizabeth (she of The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle in A Study in Charlotte)。 Since The Last of August he has broken off contact with Charlotte。 This may seem heartless, but Jamie doesn't know what has happened to Charlotte, or how her affection for him has grown。 The hard work she put in denying her emotions is now paying off。 Jamie is angry at Charlotte for the way she deceived him, and he is still deceived。 He has not by any means forgotten her, although he wishes he could。Of course, that doesn't happen。 There's still a Moriarty in the background determined to ruin or end Charlotte and Jamie's lives。 Charlotte and Jamie are thrown back together and adventures happen。 It is all, to be honest, very complicated and a bit difficult to follow。Now, although I have given the book only three stars, I still have this highest of recommendations: I intend to continue on to read the last book in the series。 。。。more

Should read if you are reading the series obviously, but out of the 3 I have read my least favorite。 Overall though still really good。

I’m not going to lie, this book was a little tough for me to get into initially。 I felt a little disgruntled at the separation of Charlotte and Jamie at first, and I struggled to really get into the different POVs being offered (Though I did deeply enjoy this later)。 However, I was able to recognize that this was an important thing for the author to have done as I got further into the story。 I really do LOVE Watson and Holmes, and they may honestly be two of my favorite YA characters of all time I’m not going to lie, this book was a little tough for me to get into initially。 I felt a little disgruntled at the separation of Charlotte and Jamie at first, and I struggled to really get into the different POVs being offered (Though I did deeply enjoy this later)。 However, I was able to recognize that this was an important thing for the author to have done as I got further into the story。 I really do LOVE Watson and Holmes, and they may honestly be two of my favorite YA characters of all time。 I think they are perfectly paired and complimentary to each other, and for the few gripes I had with this book, (the separation, POV changes, and the smaller plot) I feel that the last 14 chapters completely made up for it。 Again, I was impressed with the plot twists and clever banter between characters。 It was a delightful read, and I greatly appreciated getting a closer look inside of Charlotte’s character and reading her witty and sardonic voice。 。。。more

İlk üç kitap arasındaki en kötüsü buydu sanırım。 Çok olaysızdı ve meraklandırıcı değildi yine de çook da kötü değildi ( Her ne kadar ilk kitaptaki gizem tadını vermese de)

While I liked the back and forth between Watson’s and Holmes’ narration, it took me longer to get into the story, due to the lack of direct Holmes and Watson interaction。 I loved their dynamic so much in the last books, and upon finally reuniting in this I was pleased again (The bathroom encounter brought me a lot of joy, not going to lie)。 Additionally, this book is less plot-driven BUT it was interesting to get a better insight into Charlotte’s past。 Also, I found the epilogue quite endearing。

Great Scott! This book was too good! I love everything that just happened。 Brittany Cavallaro did such a fantastic job with this book。 I will admit that I was concerned about where things could and were going to go after the ending of the last book。 I think that where it went was beautiful and amazing and perfect。 I especially enjoyed how this book was split perspective。 We have never gotten such a large window into Charlotte and her mind。 While I have previously stated that I would be scared to Great Scott! I am very excited to pick up the next book and see where everything goes! 。。。more

I was a bit torn on how to rate this but ended up bumping it up because I do have a lot of fun with these characters and their messy relationshipsthat said, there's two issues these books have: 1) the plots always end up eating their own tails which I know is partially a mimicry of the Sherlock Holmes stuff but makes the whole thing utterly absurd and 2) the stuff with Charlotte and Jamie is starting to get repetitive。Anyway, let's be real, there are very few series I read from start to finish a I was a bit torn on how to rate this but ended up bumping it up because I do have a lot of fun with these characters and their messy relationshipsthat said, there's two issues these books have: 1) the plots always end up eating their own tails which I know is partially a mimicry of the Sherlock Holmes stuff but makes the whole thing utterly absurd and 2) the stuff with Charlotte and Jamie is starting to get repetitive。Anyway, let's be real, there are very few series I read from start to finish and I'll wait a bit and then listen to the fourth on audiobook to see how it all wraps up。 。。。more

I actually enjoyed this a lot。 I'm just gonna pretend the 2nd book doesn't exist。 I really loved the different POVS and wished they were like that in the previous books as well。 Charlotte is such an interesting character and I really liked seeing more of her。 I also really like how the book was closed with emails。 The talk about SA, drug abuse, domestic abuse, etc I really enjoy how the author tackles it。 This is probably the first book of this series that I understand 90% of, so that's always a I actually enjoyed this a lot。 I'm just gonna pretend the 2nd book doesn't exist。 I really loved the different POVS and wished they were like that in the previous books as well。 Charlotte is such an interesting character and I really liked seeing more of her。 I also really like how the book was closed with emails。 The talk about SA, drug abuse, domestic abuse, etc I really enjoy how the author tackles it。 This is probably the first book of this series that I understand 90% of, so that's always a plus。 I just wished that this book had super shocking plot twists and wrapped everything up nicely at the end but so far that just wasn't the case for me。 I do genuinely like this series but I kinda of just want it to be over if that makes sense 。。。more

So this book was so much better than the second one。 I completely didn’t understand the ending of the second but this one cleared up near enough everything so I sort of get it now。 I liked the layout of this book a lot。 The switching between Jamie and Charlottes POV was quite interesting and I’m glad that Charlotte became a much more rounded out character。 I think it’s typical of a Sherlock retellings for the character based on Sherlock to be a pretty one dimensional genius who just figures stuf So this book was so much better than the second one。 I completely didn’t understand the ending of the second but this one cleared up near enough everything so I sort of get it now。 I liked the layout of this book a lot。 The switching between Jamie and Charlottes POV was quite interesting and I’m glad that Charlotte became a much more rounded out character。 I think it’s typical of a Sherlock retellings for the character based on Sherlock to be a pretty one dimensional genius who just figures stuff out。 Charlottes back story came out so much in this book and I hope the author carries this on in the next book。 。。。more

3。5/5I really feel like this series is dragging。。 I loved the first book, and I know for a fact that I need to reread the second book but this one。。 I don't know。 It could have just been that fact that it's freezing and it gives me less motivation to read, or because work has greatly made my energy go down after 7 pm。 I still do enjoy this series, even if I gave it the rating I did。 I love the characters and I am greatly appalled and disappointed that Netflix did the movie Enola Holmes instead o 3。5/5I really feel like this series is dragging。。 I loved the first book, and I know for a fact that I need to reread the second book but this one。。 I don't know。 It could have just been that fact that it's freezing and it gives me less motivation to read, or because work has greatly made my energy go down after 7 pm。 I still do enjoy this series, even if I gave it the rating I did。 I love the characters and I am greatly appalled and disappointed that Netflix did the movie Enola Holmes instead of adapting this series。 The book trailers for these on Epic Reads YouTube are amazing。 The first one perfectly captures the two characters。 。。。more

I really liked getting to hear more from Charlotte in the third book in this series。 I love the pairing of her and Jamie as they work together, fitting into the pieces that their great - great grandfathers left for them。 The fast pace and the quick wit of both of the main characters make’s it hard to put this book down。 Would recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a fun, quick paced read that keeps you guessing until the end!
